A Manhattan Facialist Shares Her Gym For The Skin

Finding clean, chemical-free skincare isn’t difficult, but finding products that deliver results (especially anti-aging benefits) is a more daunting task. We found a luxe line, Luzern Labs, that creates glowing skin that people seriously notice and is free of the top 12 toxins commonly found in personal care products. Manhatten esthetician, Janis Chakler, who originally recommended the line, has it in regular rotation in her skincare regime.

JANIS CHAKLER:

“I’ve seen inflammation and accelerated aging in my own skin when I used products that have chemical irritants and toxins. My skin became more sensitive and I even saw more lines in my face. With products devoid of those ingredients, my skin became more hydrated, less sensitive and redness disappeared.

I actually found out about Luzern through an esthetician friend of mine in California. I loved that there weren’t any parabens, synthetic dyes, sulfites, propylene glycol or other chemicals that would aggravate the skin. The botanical ingredients are organic. They use pharmaceutical-grade cosmeceuticals that work in synergy with one another by increasing cellular energy and optimizing healthy cell function.

I have several products that I LOVE. Force de Vie Creme Luxe for Normal to Dry skin (full jar or travel size). The product promotes collagen renewal and repairs the barrier functions of the skin. The skin has a more radiant glow, and fine lines and wrinkles are diminished. It is, in my opinion, one of the best moisturizers out there today. You see a difference after just a few days of using it.

We3 Absolut Serum is truly botox in a bottle! It contains peptides that repair various functions of the skin. Plant stem cells stimulate the human stem cells and are delivered into the skin by liposomes, bringing the ingredients into where epidermal stem cells are located. This process helps to hydrate and diminish fine lines. I also like that it helps with discoloration.

I am crazy about the Serum Absolut Rehydrate. It has organically grown rosehips oil and evening primrose oil, which help to repair dry/damaged skin. It replenishes the moisture barrier and relieves redness, irritation and flaky skin. I could go on and on with all of the products but these are my favs right now.

I think home skincare is very important. Facials help to promote healthier skin; you need to have your skin professionally cleaned and exfoliated. At-home skincare will actually help change the skin with antioxidants and other cosmeceuticals over a period of time. They work hand in hand. A facial will get the skin prepped, cleaned and ready to help the products better penetrate it. The important thing, and why I think they are a necessity, is that your skin cells regenerate every 4-6 weeks. Without a professional exfoliation and cleaning, the products that you use will not even penetrate the skin.

I have created a treatment called the Lift and Glow, it helps build collagen leaving the skin plump and hydrated. Facial muscles are lifted, jawline is contoured, and wrinkles will diminish. It utilizes 3 modalities…Microcurrent, which I like to say is the “gym for your skin!” It lifts, tones, and sculpts the face. LED Light Therapy (blue light), which has antibacterial properties and has been FDA approved to treat acne. The red light is anti-inflammatory, repairs damaged cells and regulates sebum production, so it is often used in conjunction with the blue light. It also stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, and helps to repair cells. The green light is used to help correct hyperpigmentation, which is discoloration of the skin. The third modality is the Intraceuticals Oxygen Treatment, which helps to simulate collagen and will make the skin more hydrated and healthy.

My best advice, get regular facials, moisturize more with effective products and slather on the sunscreen. Winter sun, combined with snow glare, can damage the skin. Drink lots of water to keep the skin hydrated from within and use a humidifier!”
